Fabulous result, great video. Thanks!
Exactly what I’m looking for! Have a photo from back home (Tallahassee); the canopy road my Alma mater is on..but having a hard time between the huge live oaks over the road with a large ant of Spanish moss hanging from them. Just can’t get the colors & depth right. (I have no art education in my background…except Chinese traditional brush painting and calligraphy. Just trial and error. But my friend said “your painting of Sammy (squirrel) back in 1976 was incredible, so we know you can do this” 😵💫😂. It’s nice that someone has faith in my playing around..but I did remind her that I wasn’t legally blind in ‘76, and it gets worse by the month. Her response “well, you better hurry then!” 😂🤷🏼♀️)
Nice demo. Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks Shirley, fine now! Kem
So beautiful and easy to follow. Thank you!
Thank you Tia. Ken
Very tastful, harmonically colours and forms. The warm brown with the clear cool blue, beautyful combination and one of my favourites. This video, Your painting is in my head similar with The Bolero , of Maurice Ravel. I can feel the growing of Your inspiration. The touch of illustration and imagination is such the magic in this painting. Thanks for sharing! Kind regards from Germany, Carola
Thank you Carola. Ken
Thanks
I'm sure I'm not the only one. Would love to see a quick video of your art room, desk, set up, materials, brushes, etc. Some youtubers call them 'Art desk tours' or something of that nature. lol Love your channel. New subbie!
Can I ask what paper you used. You mentioned that lifting on Arches is difficult and that is so true. And Arches cold press is predominately what i have
Go to Jerry’s Artarama Fabriano Studio Fat Watercolor cold press pad 9x12 140 pound 60 sheet
The paper I have listed I have students get because it has cotton in it & it’s easier to pull out color. For my own paintings I use rough and cold papers in blocks. You can pull out color on Arches if you have a stiff flat brush. Just scrub & tap it with a paper towel. Hope this helps Ken
It was helpful. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
What do you use to lighten the color? Is this gouache white?
In this painting did use Titanium white. 👍
Love it ❤️
Thank you Patty, I have been busy teaching classes at my home & traveling to workshops across the country! It is time for me to do more vids! Ken
This is so awesome. I am amazed by your confident strokes and insightful placements of pigments and water. I really appreciate the thought process applied in this.
Thank you Adria, I appreciate your comments & hope to do more videos soon. Ken
Beautiful sample tutorial but I wish you would have done the whole painting you showed at the beginning. I painted along and made my three rocks and was sad that you ended it there!
Thank you Joanna, I have had a number of followers who wanted shorter vids, I will try some that are a little longer in the future, your comments are appreciated. Ken
Acrylic painting rocks
Great tutorial!
How do you not have more viewers? This is amazing, thank you for your instruction. I can't wait to try this one. I have so many of my own photos I want to try and I need more practice.
Can I ask what is the name of the paper you are using?😊
Arches Rough 140 lb
Already looking beautiful! Thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial. It is just what I needed and couldn't figure out on my own.
Glad it helped!
Bful video. Explanation,colors,work..well done loved it
Thank you so much 🙂
Hi Ken, happy new year! Hope all is well with you! I am wondering if you still paint as I miss seeing your beautiful posts...really miss them. I wish I live nearby to attend your workshops. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
So helpful! Thank you for demonstrating with the sky - so many demos only show the half-trunk views with all foliage and no sky!
You are so welcome!
Just awesome!!
Thank you! 😌Ken
so fun! Thank you!
Thank you. Ken
Thanks! So fun!
Thank you so much.
Love your lessons
Thanks so much!
Beautiful paint rocks 🇧🇷🇧🇷💖💖💖👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Beautiful! Love it! Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father but through Him. We are redeemed!
Amen!
I'd be up for this one.
There is a Rock Park in MO. It is amazing. Huge rocks and hundreds of medium to small ones. A great place for family camping.
The best I have seen. I have thrown out so many paintings bc of ugly rocks. Lol
Ken, do you pre-wet your paper before painting the scene? Thanks for excellent video presentations.
Brilliant tutorial, thank you so much. I’ve just realised that I paint rocks top to bottom and how stupid I’ve been. No wonder I couldn’t retain the top lights!
Thank you Adrienne, glad is helpful. Ken
Love all the ideas you show at the end…love the cookie too, looks delicious ❤️
Thank you RCW Sue. Ken
WOW!!!. So beautiful how you so seemingly easy created such gorgeous rocks. I have always had a thing about rocks and have never seen one I didn’t like. My problem is I have a difficult time painting them!, you have put things in perspective for me, thank you!!. ❤
So glad it is helpful! Ken
Love the style & values! Thanks for sharing Ken😊
Thank you Elizabeth. Ken

Interesting thank you ❤
Hanks. Ken
Thanks as always Ken. Great instruction!!!
Thank you John. Ken
Thank you for showing the color on testing paper and on your mix on your palette.
Thank you Joanne. Ken
Curious as to what brands of brushes you use. And also your palette brand.
Hi Susie, my palette has no name on it, best bet is to go online. My brushes are a mix of medium quality & some sable. My rounds are by Creative Mark, my sable are by Rosemary. My mop brush is by Paul Rubens (Esprit 818). Paints: Holbein, American Journey, Windsor Newton & Daniel Smith. 👍
Great lesson. You’re such a good teacher. Love hearing your thought process through the whole painting in regards to color, composition, texture, value, etc. This seemingly simple painting tutorial is dense with lessons!
Thank you Christine. 😌
I agree with everything you've said. Great tutorial, Ken!
Really nice composition Ken. Robt
Thank you Lucky. Ken
wonderfully done
Thank you Maximme. Ken
Thank you.
That is beautiful and serene! And you avoided the combination of yellow and blue turning green by drying the layers. The paint stick used just as a horizontal guide is a great idea. Thanks for the very helpful tutorial!
Thank you so much! Don’t remember if I mentioned that I was using a 5 gal paint stirring stick from Lowe’s. 😌
Thank you. 😌
@@KenHobson I remember using one in your workshop at Judy Patti’s Studio!
As a beginner landscapes are rather daunting at the moment but you’ve inspired me to have a go. 😁
Be patient, you will get it! 😊
Thank you, Ken. Lovely work and thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching. Ken
Beautiful
Thank you. Ken
